Introduction

Diarrheal disease in children is a common clinical illness in practice. It, is a largely self-limited disease with many etiologies. It is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children in developing countries.

A child suffers on an average 10 to 15 episodes of diarrhea in the first five years of life, of which 3 to 5 episodes occur in the first year of life. About 80% of deaths due to diarrhea occur in children below 2 years.
