OWATONNA, Minn., Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Learning ZoneXpress, the leading producer of health and nutrition education materials in the U.S., has just released a series of four (4) dynamic DVDs based on the USDA's new nutrition initiative. It was the first company to offer educational videos related to the USDA's new 2011 nutrition guidelines. The DVDs feature real kids, real stories and real excitement about healthy living!

MyPlate food guide was unveiled on June 2 by First Lady Michelle Obama, who has diligently promoted better eating and healthier living. Her campaign focus has been nutrition for children. MyPlate clearly shows that half of all food intake should be fruits and vegetables, and the other half split between whole grains and protein-rich foods, along with a serving of dairy.

"The DVDs are full of creative ways to introduce MyPlate to kids of all ages," says Melanie Nelson, CEO of Learning ZoneXpress. "Younger children are interviewed and shown how to make favorite foods that adhere to MyPlate guidelines. High school students view a reality-style, 4 week self-improvement project as a teen applies MyPlate guidelines to her everyday choices." One of the videos, Nelson adds, presents the MyPlate guidelines and physical activity as key components of "having the energy balance that's necessary for feeling good." The fourth DVD engages the viewer through high impact visuals of MyPlate recommendations and activity.

Learning ZoneXpress videos are fun, kid-approved and affordable for classroom use.

Learning ZoneXpress is no stranger to "firsts" when it comes to the USDA MyPlate guidelines. Twenty-four hours after MyPlate was introduced, MyPlate posters, handouts, bookmarks, and bulletin board kits were ready for distribution. The company was the first to offer Spanish-language versions of its MyPlate posters and handouts.

"MyPlate is easy to understand and easy to remember," says Nelson, "It's a great addition to the ongoing effort to teach nutrition and healthy eating habits, so we're excited about promoting it with our these four DVDs and all of the other MyPlate materials we produce."
