He has done research on cancer of the cervix, where he discovered the role of papilloma viruses, for which he received the Nobel Prize. He is known for this discovery that HPV can cause cervical cancer. He is also credited with discovery of the virus causing genital warts (HPV 6) and a monkey lymphotropic polyomavirus that is a close relative to a recently discovered human Merkel cell polyomavirus, as well as techniques to immortalize cells with Epstein-Barr virus and to induce replication of the virus using phorbol esters. His work on papillomaviruses and cervical cancer received a great deal of scientific criticism on initial unveiling but subsequently was confirmed and extended to other high-risk papillomaviruses.

Prof. Hausen is associated with OMICS Group International as one of the organizing committee members for the 4th World Congress on Virology. It is a courtesy visit to our office. Dr. Harald zur Hausen wiil be the Key Note Speaker at the 4th World Congress on Virology which OMICS Group International, a Hyderabad headquartered company is organising in October in USA informed Dr. Srinubabu Gedela, MD of OMICS Group International informed in a press note issued in city today.

From the world renowned University of Heidelberg Dr. Hausen will address on the theme “Anti-Viral Immunity and Countermeasures to Control Disease Pathogenesis”, said Dr. Srinubabu Gedela.

On the occasion of visit Dr. Harald zur Hause said we expect that this decade will see substantial advances in the field of Virology. My own work in the area of Virus-linked cancers, in particular HPV 16 and HPB 18 showed us the potential in his field. Virology explores the nature of the viruses and their structure and assembly, viral genome replication and regulation of gene expression, genetic diversty and evolution, virus-cell interactions, cellular responses to infection, transformation and ancogenesis, gene delivery, viral pathogenesis and immunity and vaccines and antiviral agents, he said in a welcome message given to OMICS on the forthcoming Conference on Virology 2014.

“Immunology-2014”, “Virology-2014”, “Vaccines-2014” are the OMICS Group Conferences which have been continuously striving for the last three years for educating the world by hosting and creating a global arena for the researchers across the world to discuss the modern day research and helping in finding a cure for this disease.

According to WHO, One in 200 infections leads to irreversible paralysis. Among those paralyzed, 5% to 10% die when their breathing muscles become immobilized. Polio cases have decreased by over 99% since 1988, from an estimated 350 000 cases then, to 223 reported cases in 2012. The reduction is the result of the global effort to eradicate the disease.

India now is almost a Polio Free Country. In 2013, only three countries (Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan) remain polio-endemic, down from more than 125 in 1988.As long as a single child remains infected, children in all countries are at risk of contracting polio. Failure to eradicate polio from these last remaining strongholds could result in as many as 200 000 new cases every year, within 10 years, all over the world informed DR. Srinubabu.

In most countries, the global effort has expanded capacities to tackle other infectious diseases by building effective surveillance and immunization systems. OMICS Group International has taken this initiative a step forward to educate the world about the deadly curse of “Poliomyelitis” through the International Journal of Vaccines & Vaccination, Virology & Mycology, Journal of Clinical& Cellular Immunology informed Dr. Srinubabu.

These are some of the 100 plus scientific conference OMICS Group is organising across the globe in USA, China, UK, Japan, UAE, Spain, India and other countries said Dr. Srinubabu. This is a rare distinction of any Indian company. Conferences are held in wide spectrum of subjects as well as rare subjects. These include Clinical Sciences, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Management, Pharmaceuticals and Chemistry.
