Presents Latest Scientific Evidence on Adverse Impact of Obesity on Cancer Diagnosis and Survival

On the heels of new estimates that obesity-related diseases contribute $147 billion to the nation's health care bill, the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) is taking aim at the large number of life-threatening cancers that are preventable through effective weight management. In conjunction with its Annual Research Conference on Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Cancer in Washington, AICR will hold a news conference on November 5 to present new, evidence-based estimates that excess body fat alone is responsible for more than 100,000 cancer cases annually in the U.S., including cancers of the endometrium, esophagus, pancreas, kidney, gallbladder, breast and colon/rectum. At the same time, AICR will address the implications of alarmingly low rates of awareness of the obesity/cancer link among the public and present the latest data linking obesity with poorer outcomes both during and after cancer treatment.
