AURORA, Colo., June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to this morning's draft legislative language of the U.S. Senate's version of the healthcare reform bill, Jena Hausmann, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Colorado, released the following statement:

Instead of just repealing the Affordable Care Act, the draft Senate healthcare bill released today would roll back more than 50 years of bipartisan, bedrock commitments this nation has made to provide a healthcare safety net for children. Today, Medicaid covers more than 30 million kids nationwide, including 590,000 kids in Colorado.

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) helped win some improvements for children with disabilities in this draft version, and for that, we are grateful. However, Children's Hospital Colorado urges Sen. Gardner to keep his public and repeated pledge of "stability" for the Medicaid population. For the Colorado children who were covered by Medicaid before Obamacare and who will lose coverage if this hastily drafted plan becomes law, this approach is a far cry from stability.

As a society, we must get this right. Sen. Gardner is in a unique position to do just that, and as an advocate for all children, Children's Hospital Colorado is counting on him.
