New health plan design geared toward Jackson-area employers, features Jackson-area providers

DETROIT, Dec. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Alliance Plan, a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan, is introducing a new tiered network health plan designed specifically for Jackson County businesses and their employees. The new network is comprised of local health care providers – doctors, hospitals and other health care facilities located in and around Jackson County.

The new tiered network plan, called HAP Jackson Health Network Select, is the result of a partnership between HAP, Jackson Health Network and Henry Ford Allegiance Health. It is available as either an HMO or a PPO plan design.

HAP members enrolled in this plan will have the choice to seek care from the extensive list of Tier 1 providers, which is the most cost-effective option, or to receive care from any provider in HAP's network. Tier 1 providers include the approximately 4,000 doctors associated with Jackson Health Network and Henry Ford Physician Network, and facilities and programs affiliated with Henry Ford Allegiance Health and Henry Ford Health System.

The tiered network approach allows HAP to identify health care providers that offer the highest quality at the lowest cost, which helps members get the maximum value for their health care dollar. Highest cost savings are associated with choosing care from those providers in Tier 1 and would include lower copays on office visits.

Delivering patient care through this type of integrated care and coverage model allows the member's preferred health care providers and HAP to coordinate care and identify issues that may delay or obstruct the path to wellness. It also provides the member with access to HAP's award-winning preventive services, disease management programs and wellness programs.

"This is a first-of-its kind offering in Jackson County," said Mary Ann Tournoux, chief marketing officer, HAP. "The beauty of this network is that it gives HAP members in the Jackson area – employer group customers and their employees – the opportunity to experience significant cost savings by getting the highest quality care from their own local providers. That's a win-win for everyone."

The first employer group to use this new plan is Jackson County itself, an employer group of about 600 employees that include salaried and hourly, union and non-union workers, and retirees. The County will see significant cost savings as a result of this innovative plan design and risk-sharing between HAP and Jackson Health Network.

"Having Jackson County as a valued client for a long time, we knew that the Jackson area really needed a more effective health care program," said Greg Surmont, account director, Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC. "Based on our longstanding relationship with HAP, we knew HAP would be the perfect partner to deliver the health plan solution we were looking for. We also knew that HAP would be able to seamlessly partner with Jackson Health Network, Henry Ford Allegiance Health and the entire Henry Ford Health System to make our vision a reality. The County executive leadership team and board invested a great deal of time and attention to this important local/regional opportunity to efficiently deliver high quality employee and retiree group health care benefits. We are proud that Marsh & McLennan Agency was able to serve as a catalyst to bring it all together."

One of the highlights of this plan design is the scope of the Tier 1 provider network. Henry Ford Allegiance Health and Jackson Health Network offer easy access to a myriad of high-quality providers in the Jackson area. But if care needs to be accessed outside the area, members can easily access Henry Ford facilities elsewhere in Michigan – all at cost-effective Tier 1 rates. If members choose to seek care from a Tier 2 provider, they have HAP's entire network from which to choose. HAP partners with 27,000 doctors and 152 hospitals throughout the state.
