In addition to a redesigned look and navigation system, save.org, which received 30 million hits since 2005, provides comprehensive information on identifying depression, suicide prevention and extensive information on grieving with support materials for those who have lost a friend or loved one to suicide.

The website also offers information presented specifically for teenagers, young adults and seniors, demographic groups that are especially susceptible to suicide and depression. "This is an important tool in today's world of suicide prevention," says Dr. Dan Reidenberg, executive director of SAVE, "especially for the youth in our country, who are particularly at risk and use the internet as their 'go-to' source for information. As a result, SAVE will work diligently to keep current information and resources available to them."

Save.org also features a new retail section that allows users to purchase SAVE's suicide prevention brochures, books, public service announcements and other material online. In addition, schools, municipalities and religious organizations are able to purchase customized material in support of their suicide prevention efforts.

The new website, along with other resources offered by SAVE, is critical in the fight to prevent suicide, the 11th leading cause of death in the United States with one suicide occurring on average every 16 minutes. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among 10-24 year olds and the second leading cause of death for 24-34 year olds. Save responds to more the 1000 internet requests each year and expects a significant increase in inquiries with the release of the new website.

SAVE is committed to the education of the general public about the depressive brain diseases (such as clinical depression and bipolar illness) that can result in suicide if left untreated. By educating the general public about such brain diseases, SAVE strives to remove the stigma associated with these diseases. SAVE's prevention and education programs include a school-based program educating staff, parents and students, community and professional presentation through a volunteer speaker's bureau, professional conference presentations and exhibitions, educational materials distributed internationally, national multi-media public service advertising campaign and community action kits.
