A 21-year-old Indian youth, depressed over his poor academic performance, shoots himself to death with his father’s gun.

Vinod Singh, a second-year student of a Delhi University's distance learning course, shot himself in the chest and died instantly, said police. The incident took place in outer Delhi, Indian capital.

His parents have told the police that Vinod was not good at studies but wanted to help his family. "He was under depression for the past few months as he was unable to contribute in any way to the family," said a police officer, quoting his parents. A suicide note has been found from his room which states: "I am ending my life and no one should be held responsible for it."

His father Ramesh Chandra Singh, a Subedar with the Indian Army, is presently posted in Faridkot in Punjab. Vinod was staying along with his mother and two sisters in Sushant Vihar area. On Saturday morning, when his mother had gone for a walk and his two sisters were sleeping in other room, he allegedly shot himself with the licensed double barrel gun after latching the door from inside. Hearing gun shot, his sisters rushed to find the door locked. They immediately informed their mother and uncle Gopal, who stays nearby and works as head constable in Delhi Police,Times of India reports.

His body was taken to Babu Jagjeevan Ram hospital. The cops have seized the 12 bore gun. The licence has been issued in the name of his father and mother.
