Do-it-yourself DNA Test Kits Available Generally in the UK

Anglia DNA Services has made available DIY DNA testing kits that will allow families to establish paternity without having to spend years in courts.

This means that anyone aged over 16 can establish paternity without having to seek legal recourse. However critics are up in arms saying these kits will harm children who would receive potentially alarming news without being counseled.

“These DIY kits, inevitably, will cause enormous effect on those involved. There is an urgent need for new regulation to reflect this development because it has happened quite out of the blue," said Norman Lamb, the Liberal Democrats’ health spokesman.

The DNA kits cost £29.99 plus a £129 lab fee and results will be out in five days. If consumers want results in 24 hours, the fee rises to 329 pounds.
