Doctor Delivers 15 Babies in a Single Day

Dr. Gautam Khastgir, a consultant gynecological surgeon and an infertility specialist in Kolkata performed 12 cesarean operations to deliver 15 babies in a single day. On October 10 this year, Dr. Khastgir performed all the deliveries within a span of 10 hours and three mothers gave birth to twins. “All deliveries were done according to their time, although few pregnant mothers pressed on the point that their babies be delivered on October 10, “ clarified Dr. Khastgir on Wednesday while attending a thanksgiving ceremony held by some mothers who were successfully operated on October 10.

“We are particularly glad that this incident happened in the year when the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to professor Robert Edwards, the pioneer of test tube baby,” added Dr. Khastgir.

All the 15 babies delivered on October 10 are fine, confirmed Dr. Khastgir. Kuheli Dasgupta, one of the mothers said. “Actually my date of delivery was Oct 11 but I requested the doctor to do the operation on October 10 as I was having some complications.”   Sarawati Saha, another mother said, “This day 10.10.10 has a profound astrological significance. I am very happy that I could give birth to my baby child on this day.”
