Bariatric surgery or gastric bypass surgery is slowly, but surely gaining a strong foothold in India. This is evidenced by the fact that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari is the latest in the list of political figures to undergo //the surgery. Gadkari, who was operated in a private hospital in Mumbai, is expected to lose around 30 kgs after his surgery. This is thought to be important in helping him gain control over his weight and his diabetes.
The BJP chief was advised surgery after failing to control his blood sugar levels, leaving doctors with no option but to operate.
Gadkari’s surgeon Muffazal Lakdawala said, "Medically, he is fit now...he should be back to work within a week."
