Sleep Awareness Program Ropes in Vidya Balan

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has been named the brand ambassador for the sleep awareness program for the month of March.

The awareness program has teamed up with Indian Sleep Disorders Association (ISDA) and pharmaceutical company Abbott India and is expected to create a number of camps where it will educate the general public over the signs and symptoms of sleeping disorder.

According to health experts, more than 30 percent of Indians suffer from some form of sleeping disorder and while it is a serious health problem, the general public is not aware of the implications and possible cure of the condition.

The President of Indian Sleep Disorders Association J.C. Suri blamed the hectic work schedule of urban dwellers for the rise in sleeping disorder cases. “he importance of sleep can be seen from the fact that people spend about one-third of their lifespan sleeping. However, increasing competition at the workplace, hectic lifestyle and stress have resulted in a higher incidence of sleep-related disorders, especially among urban Indians”, Suri added.
