Teenager Granted Permission for Sex Change Treatment
A teenage girl who has been diagnosed with gender identity disorder has been granted permission by a family court to initiate a sex change treatment.
Identified by the court as Rosie, who is 17, the girl has been suffering from the disorder since she was a toddler. She reportedly asked her father if she can have a surgery to get a penis when she was two years old. By the next year, she asked her parents to call by a boy’s name and refused to wear any girl’s clothes.

The court was also informed that she suffered from a severe depression when she got her first period at 12 years of age and started to wear tight vests in order to make sure that she did not grow any breasts.

Justice Linda Dessau of the Family Court said that Rosie was slowly turning anti-social and did not fit in her school unless she was treated as a boy. She also suffered from a number of other problems such as self-harming, binge eating and suffer panic attacks in her early teens and the court had to agree to her wishes when faced with her “unwavering views”.
