Divorce rates in 2009 have fallen down for the 6th consecutive year. Couples who get married in their late 20's are the most likely to get divorced within 5years.
According to
the Office for National Statistics, divorce rates in 2009 have fallen down for
the 6
th consecutive year. This could be because fewer couples prefer
to get married. Also influx of immigrants from more traditional
societies might have helped to keep the divorce rates down and birth rates up.
But relationship experts have cited decline of marriage as the real reason.
However the
survey also states that couples who get married in their late 20's are the most
likely to get divorced within 5years. When compared across all age groups the
divorce rates among couples between 25-29 years was almost double. Nowadays people
in the young age group have greater choice and give more importance to personal
ambitions and are incompatible with the idea of life-long marriage, which is
why more marriages end up in divorce.
According to
the survey 1 in 3 couples split before reaching
the 15
th wedding anniversary as compared to 1 in 5 a generation ago.
Relationship experts have attributed this trend to the celebrity culture of 'starter
marriages' wherein celebrity couples get divorced within 5 years of marriage
before the birth of children.
