Fish a Day Lowers Diabetes Risk
Fish consumption lowers the diabetes risk, according to Spain's University of Valencia. Researcher Mercedes Sotos Prieto cited that the increase of omega-3 in the cells of the skeletal muscles improves insulin sensitivity, a factor associated with the lowered risk of diabetes.
The study involved 945 men and women aged between 55-80 years with a high cardiovascular risk. Fish is a staple in the Mediterranean diet. Fish is also known to be beneficial for the heart. It was found that those who had a reduced intake of red meat and ate fish regularly had lower blood glucose levels.

The study is reported in the journal 'Nutrician Hospitalaria'.
