A group of international scientists revealed that they have developed a new treatment for Type-I diabetes that could help the patients avoid taking painful insulin injections. Type-I diabetes is caused when the immune system of the body attacks and destroys the insulin producing cells in the pancreas. This disease is characterized by frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger and at the same time resulting in weight loss. The only treatments for this disease are insulin injections and insulin pumps.
Now an international team of scientists reveal that they have created a new treatment, named as DiaPep277 that will do away with the need of using insulin injections or pumps. The scientists said that the treatment works by preventing the immune system from attacking the insulin producing cells in the pancreas.
Scientists are hopeful that the new drug could prove to be a boon for type 1 diabetics.
