According to a report it was found that Botswana has one of the highest numbers of cases associated child abuse.

According to a report it was found that Botswana has one of the highest numbers of cases associated child abuse. Statistics show that about 81children were abused in various forms between January and May this year. Botswana minister Margaret Nasha said that the children were brutally beaten some were subjected to rape, sodomy, attempted rape, defilement and incest. But such cases were not reported as the victim’s family opted for an out of court settlement mode. Nasha criticized parents who accepted payment from people who abuse their children. She said this in the press on the Day dedicated to the African Child. She ashamed and questioned the ethics of the children’s parents who accepted money from abusers.

Nasha said parents must provide support and guidance to their children as they are defenseless, innocent and vulnerable. She requested the public to fight against this evil and this could be achieved by acting in unison and by reporting cases of child abuse, exploitation and neglect, without delay. It is sad state that most of the child abuse occur in the households and within the communities by relatives, service providers and other people who were supposed to protect the children. This would create a negative impact on their well being. In conclusion she asks the African nations to intervene in such situation and take necessary measures to prevent such acts from happening again and thereby make Africa a safe place for its children.
