Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has added a new twist to the cola row by claiming that colas are equally dangerous even without the added pesticides.
"All carbonated drinks like Pepsi and Coca Cola have high-risk factors as much as tobacco and a comprehensive policy on such drinks are needed," he said at the golden jubilee year celebrations of the cardio-thoracic department of Madras Medical College.Ramadoss added that the issue of pesticide content in soft drinks was a short-term one and could be sorted out once the government chalked out a permitted level policy.
A notification has also been issued to packed food manufacturers to specify the level of nutrients in their food items, he said.
