As many as 128 school girls belonging to the Indian State of Kerala fell ill and were admitted to hospitals after taking a meal given by a voluntary organization. District Collector N. Ayappan said the condition of the girls, who belong to the Cotton Hill Girls High School and Government School at Manacuad, are stable. The district administration is not reported to have taken a part in the free meal scheme, and the chances of sabotage have not been ruled out.
Vanchi Poor Fund, the charitable organization that supplied the lunch, said the incident must have occurred due to the poor quality of rice supplied by the Food Corporation of India. A victim said the food served was emitting a foul smell.Edited (IANS)
