The drug Macugen is found to be effective in treating wet age related macular degeneration disease which is a progressive disease of the macula. Wet age related macular degeneration is caused due to a chronic degenerative disease of the macula region of the eye, macula is present in the retina which is responsible for proper eye sight.
The degenerative disease is caused by the growth of abnormal blood vessel beneath the macula which leads to severe bleeding and accumulation of fluid in retina leading to a condition called Choroidal neovascularization.
