A new study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine suggests that women are able to experience orgasm through vaginal intercourse alone and said that such an orgasm was different from those achieved through clitoral stimulation. The suggestion that a woman’s orgasm was linked to clitoral stimulation was backed by an essay written by French gynecologist Odile Buisson who said that vaginal stimulation was not possible without clitoral stimulation.
However recent study conducted by researchers from New Jersey's Rutgers University has found that orgasms achieved through clitoral stimulation activated different areas of the brain compared to vaginal intercourse.
“If the vagina stimulation is simply working via clitoral stimulations, then vaginal stimulation and clitoral stimulation should activate the exact same place in the sensory cortex. But they don't”, lead researcher Barry Komisaruk said.
