Rice Pakvannam


English name : Rice
Botanical name : Oryza sativa
Sanskrit name : Shali
Hindi name : Chaval
Tamil name : Arisi

Ingredients 

Rice granules           – 1 cup
Green gram granules - ¼ teaspoons
Ghee

Mustard                 - 1 tsp
Pepper                   - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds           - 1 tsp
Curry leaves           - few
Water                   - 5 cups

Preparation

  • Heat

    the ghee in a shallow tawa.
  • Add mustard seeds and let it pop.
  • Add powdered pepper and cumin seeds.
  • Add curry leaves.
  • Now add water and let the salt dissolve in it.
  • When it begins to boil, add granule

    rice (rava like) and hulled green gram.
  • Mix and sauté it.
  • Cook till it gains a thick consistency.
  • Serve hot
