Signs and Symptoms

Many stones are typically "silent'. When stones obstruct renal calyces, renal pelvis, or the ureters, symptoms like back pain or renal colic occurs.

► Pain-is the most prominent symptom. Most patients complain of fixed, intermittent dull pain in the loins, or region of the kidneys, which is aggravated by movement and better by rest. Severe colic occurs if the stone gets lodged in the ureter. Pain may increase steadily and peaks in a few minutes radiating into the flanks, testis or labium.

► Profuse sweating and pallor are associated with pain at times

► Nausea and vomiting

► Chills and fevers

► Blood tinged urine

► Recurrent urinary infection.

Many types of renal stones are asymptomatic at times. Generally phosphate stones are asymptomatic.
