Glossary
Vitamins: Organic substances that are essential for most metabolic functions of the body.Vitamin E: A substance used in cancer prevention; it belongs to the family of drugs called tocopherols.
Vitamin A: A substance used in cancer prevention; it belongs to the family of drugs called retinoids.
Vitamin K: A substance that promotes the clotting of blood.
Folate: Folic acid is an important factor in nucleic acid synthesis (the genetic material of all cells). Deficiency leads to megaloblastic anemia.
Fat-soluble vitamins: Any vitamins that are soluble in fats or fat solvents. These vitamins are absorbed by the body from the intestinal tract and follow the same path of absorption as fat and any condition interfering with the absorption of fats would result in poor absorption.
