A new research has revealed that one in five young people in Britain would rather starve themselves for a whole day than go without their mobile phones.

Shocking findings today revealed just how dependent 18-24 year olds have become on the devices, the Daily Mail reported.

A study, involving more than 2,000 under 25-year-olds, found a staggering 21 per cent would rather go without food than their mobile.

The research, by O2 Insurance, also found that a further 19 per cent would find it more difficult to go without their handset than water for a day.

A total of 11 per cent claimed they would prefer to give up television than their phone.

And the same number said they simply wouldn't be able to function without their mobile.
