23 Years of Your Lives Spent in Front of Electronic Screens

by Savitha C Muppala on August 5, 2013 at 7:00 PM

With most of us spending much of our waking hours in front of some screen or the other, it is not a surprise that we could end up spending 23 years of our lives in front of electronic screens.

Most Scots, according to a recent research, will have spent close to 23 years in front of a computer, TV or mobile phone screen, by the time they die.

A survey of 2000 adults by the National Lottery found that 66% of people spend nearly seven hours a day in front of some screen or the other. They could be staring at their computer screens, laptops, mobile phones or tablets.

The survey also found that men are more addicted to gadgets as compared to women.

"The technological revolution has brought with it many positives but the downside is the impact on our health and well-being. We risk creating a generation of screenie boppers who aren't active enough and have limited interactions with real people. Reducing screen time can provide significant benefits. There are thousands of lottery-funded sports centers, parks, walking and cycling paths across Scotland. We want people of all ages to take up these opportunities and spend less time staring at a screen."
