3 Die of Swine Flu in Hyderabad; Toll Rises to 29

Three people have died of complications from swine flu at Gandhi Hospital taking the overall death toll to 29 in Telangana, India between December and January.


A woman (36) from Ghatkesar, 54-year-old male from Miryalguda, Nalgonda and another 40-year-old man from Champapet in Hyderabad died due to swine flu, said officials at Gandhi Hospital.

While this being the case, the government health authorities have continued to maintain that the swine flu death toll at 25.

"The government is fully equipped and could handle situations that were twice or thrice more alarming than the present outbreak of the flu," said NIMS Director Dr. L. Narendranath. However, the director said that the situation was �not so alarming' as made out by the media.

Meanwhile, 2 suspected swine flu cases were reported in Prakasam. The state of a 72-year-old woman, who tested positive for swine flu, deteriorated on Tuesday, said J.Yasmin, Prakasam District Medical and Health Officer.

Sources with the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM), Hyderabad said that a man suffering from swine flu died there on Sunday.
