Researchers from Lule University of Technology in Sweden have come out with a wheelchair that senses its environment in 3D and conveys that information to its user.
The wheelchair which may be available in the next five years comprises a laser scanner that is capable of mapping the surroundings, all in 3D. A haptic robot, which can be held in the left hand, communicates this data as useful information. A joystick is provided which the user can use in the right hand.
This 3D sensing wheelchair is going through the initial testing phase.
