4-Year-Old Kids Who Exercise Reap Early Health Benefits: Swedish Study

by Dr. Trupti Shirole on October 14, 2015 at 5:47 PM

The benefits of exercise are not only relevant for elders but even toddlers can benefit from it. Swedish researchers have now suggested that four-year-olds who exercise for five minutes every day reap significant health benefits.

The research from Stockholm's Karolinska Institutet showed that five minutes of intense physical activity is enough for children to lose fat and see marked improvements in stamina and strength.

Marie Lof, a senior researcher in biosciences and nutrition, said, "I was a little surprised that we found this correlation between physical activity, muscle strength and stamina."

Lof said, "The results showed stronger benefits than expected for young children who exercise more than their peers. Intense, tiresome activity delivers the greatest results, but a gym membership is not be necessary. One can play with soft balls or balloons, anything to spur the activity in a natural way."
