by Dr. Trupti Shirole on June 6, 2015 at 8:39 AM

Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on June 4, 2015, said that safety checks on Maggi instant noodles had been ordered, and action in the matter would be taken only after test reports were in.

While addressing a press conference, Paswan said, "The union government had taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and ordered the checks. No one could be held guilty just on the basis of accusations. There are reports that Maggi noodles contain lead beyond permissible limits. It is being checked. Let the reports come in and the government will take action accordingly."

The minister also said that the matter ought to be probed thoroughly since it was related to the health of children and was thus serious.
