Actor Gina Riley Undergoing Treatment for Breast Cancer

Fifty-one-year-old actor and comedian, Gina Riley who plays Kim in the series Kath & Kim, has revealed that she is suffering from breast cancer and is undergoing treatment.

She was diagnosed in December 2012 and the cancer was surgically removed at Melbourne's Cabrini Hospital.

She was fortunate that the cancer was detected in the initial stages, during an annual medical check up. Due to an early diagnosis, the cancer was treatable, she said.

Feeling grateful for an early diagnosis, she stressed the importance of regular check-ups for ladies once a year so that any abnormal growth can be detected early.

"Ladies, get your breasts checked out. Preferably by a health professional," says Riley.

She is recovering and responding well to treatment.
