A Maskless and Hoseless Micro-CPAP Called Airing For People With Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are usually treated with continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP), but many do no opt for CPAP device due to the uncomfortable masks and hoses associated with them.

Airing LLC, a company in Burlington, Massachusetts, is working on a CPAP that's more compact than traditional devices. The team is raising money on Indiegogo to develop a micro CPAP machine that is small enough to stick in the nose.

Airing is about the size of a Bluetooth device that inserts into a pair of nostrils and keeps the nasal passages wide open during sleep.

Designers of the airing device rely on micro-blowers that use little power to push air into the nostrils. The team has managed to raise over a half million dollars on Indiegogo.

Airing is a hoseless, maskless,cordless micro-CPAP device that weighs 0.9 ounce and costs $3. The device is disposable powered by a zinc-air battery, which last eight hours.
