The new mobile app which is free and available for download in the App Store for Android and IOS devices teach kids with the help of fun games and activities.
Sharon Milberger, ScD, director of Henry Ford LiveWell, said that they were essentially meeting kids by offering them an app with games that were fun and engaging and by applying gaming principles, the app reinforced healthy behavior with game points to help kids learn how to make long-term, healthy decisions.
The new app is based on the 5-2-1-0 education campaign from Maine's Childhood Obesity Prevention Program Let's Go! to bring awareness to daily nutrition and physical activity recommendations for children.
There are four mini-games included in the app that feature characters based on all four steps of 5-2-1-0 and is geared toward kids aged 4-9.
Once the app is downloaded, parents are directed to Henry Ford's 5-2-1-0 website with links to healthy recipes, activities and other resources to help follow the 5-2-1-0 message.
