Assamese Artists Receive Health Insurance, Financial Assistance Granted by NGO

Health is no longer a concern to artists, since a Northeast-based NGO has initiated health insurance and financial assistance schemes for them.

The Satyam Foundation, a charitable trust run by the 'Satyam Group' of North East India, has made a beginning in this regard last year.


In a well-organized and well-attended 'Artiste Welfare Programme' held on September 3, 2011, financial assistance to seventeen artists was extended. All these were exponent of Assamese culture in different fields of art and music.

Eight artists were provided with life insurance coverage of Rs. five lakh each and health insurance of Rs. two lakh each. Six artists were given cash assistance of Rs. one lakh each.

Two ailing artists were assisted with a sum of Rs. two lakh each for treatment of heart and kidney ailments. One artist received a cash assistance of Rs. fifty thousand for purchase of medicines.

The Satyam Foundation is organizing the second edition of Artist Welfare Programme in the similar manner this year also. The Satyam Group has decided to offer fourteen artists financial assistance.

The Satyam Group has formed a committee headed by Bhupen Uzir. It includes noted film director Munin Baruah, noted Assamese musician J. P. Das, Sambhu Gupta and Nilotpal Dutta.

Once the names are finalised, they will be announced separately and the distribution of financial assistance will be made in a programme to be specially organized for this purpose.

The Satyam Foundation has been involved in various philanthropic activities for the past several years. Activities of the Satyam Foundation include scholarship to students, medical aid, upkeep of temples and dharamshalas, promotion of cultural activities, civic activities and various other projects.
