Lack of Profits Force Australians to Shut Cafes That Employ People With Mental Illness

by Dr. Trupti Shirole on June 2, 2015 at 7:05 AM

Saurabh Bhargava, an Indian origin man in Australia, helped set up two cafes to train and employ people who were recovering from a mental illness. However due to lack of profitability both these cafes which are located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) will be closed by June 12, 2015.

The two cafes were started under the Mental Illness Fellowship training program. Bhargava said, "The trainees' lives depend on the training. It's a therapeutic approach which the cafes have."

A spokesman for the Australian health minister said, "The decision had been made by the fellowship because the financial returns from the cafes were not covering the costs of running the program."
