Automatic Delivery System of Anesthesia Medications

An automatic delivery system of propofol and remifentanil has been developed by an inventive team of French anesthesiologists.

The researchers explained that the system employs a Bispectral Index (BIS) monitor as a guide, which proves more efficient than manual administration.

Researchers have developed a proportional-integral-derivative controller which enables closed-loop administration of propofol and remifentanil, directed by the Bispectral Index (BIS) monitor, during administration of general anesthesia.

The delivery system has been tested on 196 surgical patients.
