Bihar Chief minister Nitish Kumar has promised to regularize the services of around 1,600 contract doctors in the state. The minister at the same time chided them for frequently resorting to unnecessary agitation.

"Doctors appointed on contract basis will soon be regularized and the government will try its best to help them out. But why do they sit on fast unto death? Rather, they should take care of their responsibilities. Their duty is to look after patients and it is the government's job to solve their problem," said minister at the 45th foundation day of Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH) function held in Patna.

The minister instructed principal secretary (health) Brijesh Mehrotra and secretary, health, Anand Kishore to look into problems of contract doctors.

"The doctors should not get hassled by the behaviur of kin of patients," Nitish said, referring to frequent scuffle between doctors and relatives of patients in various government hospitals.

The CM said that the state government was committed to put in place quality medical infrastructure and recruit doctors by creating the required posts. He also expressed dismay over delay in execution of ongoing medical infrastructure projects.
