Blood Test Detects the Risk of Diabetes Before Onset of Symptoms

People who are likely to develop diabetes can be detected about 10-years before the onset of symptoms with the help of a simple blood test. US scientists have identified certain chemical metabolites present in the blood which are linked with type-2 diabetes and are caused by the failure of insulin hormone.
Several times the condition goes undiagnosed and an early blood test would help diagnose the people at risk before they develop any complications. Thus they would get timely health advice and medical treatment. Researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston analyzed blood samples of people with type-2 diabetes for the presence of chemical metabolites and compared it with the samples taken at the beginning of the study. They found that the levels of 5amino acids- isoleucine, leucine, valine, tyrosine and phenylalanine were higher among people with diabetes.
The study has been published in the journal Nature Medicine.
