More and more teenagers seduced by the glittering world of Hollywood are opting for botox treatment even as speculation persists over its ill effects on the body.

According to the latest figures, more than 12,000 procedures of botox treatment were carried out on teenagers in the country last year with health experts warning that the number is rising every year.

Health officials with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons say that a large number of teenagers are opting for botox to get that perfect look. Most of the cases involved correcting their smile or the angle of the jaw.

Doctors are blaming the rising trend in Hollywood with a number of stars preferring to take botox jabs to do away with signs of aging. However a number of health experts have warned over the rising trend among the teenagers, calling it a dangerous practice.

"Botox can be dangerous if not regulated properly. This trend of "teen toxic" has a potential for unnecessary complications from untrained injectors who are not physicians. Most teens are wrinkle free and Botox does not prevent natural aging. Unless there is compelling need, it should not be administered under age 18", Las Vegas plastic surgeon Dr Shoib Allan Myint said.
