A 36 year old Australian woman and mother of three children suffered a massive cardiac arrest which left her brain dead for close to 12 minutes. Her recovery has surprised doctors as she has survived without any brain damage!

Kristy Liddell suffered a heart attack on April 30th. She had to undergo five heart bypasses as her arteries were blocked due to a buildup of cholesterol.

Doctors at MonashHeart felt they needed to operate her soon as scans showed that she could go in for another massive cardiac arrest. Five coronary arteries were blocked and she needed bypass surgeries urgently.

Thanking her stars , Kristy said, "It just goes to show that it doesn't matter what size you are or how fit you are, if you've got high cholesterol you are at risk."

"Most women think heart disease is something that happens to fat middle-aged men who smoke and drink too many beers, but risk factors like family history and cholesterol can be silent", doctors said.
