More and more men are resorting to buying a pair of smoothie pants instead of hitting the gym in order to lose weight.

Sales of men's bottom-lifting undies have shot up by 238 per cent and sculpting T-shirts by 317 per cent.

And according to Debenhams, sales of elastic waistbands have spiked up 340 per cent since the Christmas blowout.

"As the cost and effort of the gym kicks in, instantaneous figure fixers are proving immensely popular with men as a cheap-fix alternative," the Daily Express quoted spokeswoman Dominique Rock as saying.

"Shaping T-shirts and pants also require a lot less willpower than a carefully controlled diet."

66 percent men surveyed by Debenhams were worried about their moobs - man boobs - and love handles.

Rock added, "Canny blokes now have access to the tricks of the trade that women have been using for years."
