CamNtech Receives FDA Nod for Wrist-Worn Motion Tracker
Cambridge-based physiological monitoring company CamNtech announced that it has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for two of its wrist-worn products that can be used to monitor patient activity for clinical purposes and in research trials.
One of the devices, MotionWatch 8, can monitor patient activity by using a digital tri-axial accelerometer, used in many consumer fitness trackers.
The data collected by the device can be transferred to a computer with the help of USB connection while accompanying software converts the data collected by a light sensor and activity marker into activity plots to quantify the intensity and duration of daily physical activity.
The second device, PRO-Diary, comes with the same activity monitor as the MotionWatch. Featuring an OLED screen, a touch sensitive slider and two buttons, the device can be used by patients to answer questions at any moment of the day and has a battery life of two weeks. The questionnaires can be uploaded on to the device using a USB connection, with the questions being asked at specified times, random times or user initiated
