A recent implantable neurostimulation device for treatment of chronic migraines has received the European regulatory approval (CE Mark).

This device involves Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) of the occipital nerves present below the skin in the back of the head. Small pulses generated by the implanted electrical leads work to alleviate symptoms of migraine.

Tests conducted to verify the effectiveness of this device at one year showed that 65% of subjects reported good relief from pain. 68% said that this device impacted their quality of life positively and most were extremely satisfied with the device.
