Children from Poor Urban Localities Prefer to Eat Fast Food
During a recent research, scientists were alarmed to find that nearly 50% of children aged 11 to 14 from poor urban localities ate fast food twice a week.
The scientists also found that one out of three children were overweight or obese.
When quizzed, 92 % of the children said that taste was the overriding reason for their preference and they simply enjoyed fast food.
"These schoolchildren are exposed to an environment that is likely to cause obesity, and it is not surprising that in this situation, many of these children are already overweight or obese and will likely become obese as adults.Clearly, actions need to be taken to either limit the ability of these children to access fast food outlets or to change the foods they purchased at these outlets," researchers caution.
