Chocolate Biscuits Contain Alarming Amount of Salt

by Kathy Jones on June 6, 2013 at 11:27 PM

Health experts have warned that chocolate biscuits contain an alarming amount of salt.

This revelation was made after results of a study indicated that many of the so-called chocolate biscuits are saltier than cinema popcorn. Asda's Fun-size Mini Milk Chocolate Digestives was the worst offender of the 479 biscuits tested by Consensus Action on Salt and Health.

CASH chairman and heart specialist Professor Graham MacGregor said that children who eat two or more such salt-filled biscuits are at high risk of heart problems in later life, "With salt hidden in sweet foods as well, how can parents be expected to prevent children from eating too much salt?" he added.

High levels of salt were also detected in McVitie's Milk Chocolate Hobnobs and Cadbury Milk Chocolate Digestives.
