Two sisters residing in Kent have been awarded 1,600 in compensation after they were bitten over a 100 times by bed bugs in a London hotel and required treatment at a hospital.
Melanie Carmen and Joy McDonagh, both in their late 40s, travelled to London and stayed at the Airways Hotel in Pimlico, South West London. Both the sisters then woke up with lumps all over their bodies with Mrs Carmen being bitten 86 times while her sister was bitten over 30 times.
They were then taken to the Queen Mary's Hospital in south east London where they were treated using antibiotics and antihistamines. Both the sisters contacted solicitors Irwin Mitchell and were awarded over 1,600 in compensation.
"The bites were extremely painful. We were left suffering from deep aches, itching, and other flu-like symptoms and it took months for the bites to disappear. It makes it worse knowing it isn't just us who have suffered because of the appalling conditions at the hotel", Mrs Carmen said.
