Congress Alleges BJP Government for Not Creating Enough Awareness About Swine Flu
As the total number of people affected by swine flu reached the 10,000 mark, and the death toll having soared to 663 across the country, the Congress party alleged the BJP-led government of being 'insensitive' and criticized the Center for not creating enough awareness about various aspects of the disease such as symptoms and treatment.
Congress spokesperson Shobha Oza said, "The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is being insensitive. The number of deaths due to swine flu has been massively increasing. Recently, more than 10,000 have been found affected by swine flu, 700 deaths have been registered and many more are unregistered. No awareness is being created about various aspects, symptoms and cure of swine flu. No medicines are available for the disease and the tests are too expensive for the common people."
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda had earlier said, "There is no dearth of medicines and hospitals are equipped to deal with swine flu."
Swine flu cases have been reported from new states like Jammu and Kashmir and Nagaland. Health authorities in these two states have issued alerts following the detection of H1N1 cases.
