Consumers Warned About Using Nasal Tanning Spray

A government health agency in Britain has sent out a warning to the public stating that the use of nasal tanning spray could be harmful to their health.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has launched an investigation regarding the product, which is sold under the brandname Ubertan Sunless Tanning System, and said that it is an unlicensed medicine.

However the medicine is being sold illegally in gyms and in beaches and while its website claims that the product is made up of a natural extract of an Indian tropical plant called the Indian Coleus, the box does not display the ingredients used to make the spray.

The MHRA said that the product may contain Forskolin which is illegal in Britain while another form of Ubertan was found to contain Melanotan II which is also illegal in the country. The MHRA added that the product has not been tested for safety and could be dangerous to people.

"Ubertan or any other nasal tanning spray hasn't undergone testing to show it's safe or that it even works. At best it's a waste of money, at worse it can seriously damage your health", MHRA's Claire Tilstone said.
