Creating Environmental Awareness Using Mime In Manipur

A long history of theater precedes Manipur, where this art form exists in a variety of other forms.


Mime, an age-old form of dramatic entertainment, is one such theatre form, and it has often been used to mobilise public opinion and spread awareness among the people.ime artists recently staged a performance titled "Love your Nature" at the MDU Hall here.

Interacting with media, Jiteshwori Devi, an artist, said, "I am very much interested in theatre and I like to act, so I came to participate in this form of theatre."

"Love Your Nature" is about preserving the environment and preventing the problems that are caused by damaging it.

Artists depicted the problems that the modern day technologies pose to the eco-system, and showcased how in the name of the development, the environment is being destroyed.

Directed by Yumnam Sadananda, a noted Manipuri mime director, "Love your Nature", clearly sends out the message for an urgent need to put in place effective plans to save our environment.

"We want to protect our environment. Though the play is non-verbal, it's very experimental, and we are trying to spread awareness about environment through this play," Yumnam, the Director of the show, said.

A large number of people thronged the venue, and widely appreciated the performances.

The audience agreed that there is an urgent need to protect the environment.

Chinglen, one of the audiences, said, "This is one of the best performances. I think they have sent out a strong message about environment. Nowadays our environment is being degraded so it's very important to protect it."
