Even though crib bumpers are used to keep babies from falling out of cribs, The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that bumpers be removed from cribs especially when babies begin to stand up.

This is because babies can use them as support to get out of the crib. This can result in falls and injury which can also be fatal. Chicago has taken a firm stance on crib bumpers and has enforced a ban on them.

Crib bumpers are considered unsafe after reports of SIDS, serious accidents, and injury to babies has occurred following its use.
